Jet Ski Shipping
Jet ski shipping moves personal watercraft by road — one machine or several, on your trailer or on a carrier's. It is what people use after a private or dealer purchase, a seasonal move between a home and a lake or coastal property, or a machine going in for winter storage or work.
Genius Auto Trans is a licensed and bonded property broker — USDOT 3674601, MC 1274912, Broker Property, ACTIVE with the FMCSA. We do not own trailers. We source from a vetted network of more than 10,000 carriers.

The trailer question decides the price
A PWC is small and light compared with almost everything else we move, so the machine itself is rarely the constraint. How it travels is.
On its own trailer. Usually the most economical route, and the qualifier that matters is whether the trailer is genuinely roadworthy — tyres, bearings, lights, brakes and a serviceable coupling. PWC trailers spend their lives being reversed into water and then sitting unused for months, which is hard on bearings specifically. A trailer that fails inspection at collection is the most common way one of these shipments goes wrong.
On the carrier's equipment. For machines without a trailer, or where yours is not fit for a long haul. The PWC is cradled and secured directly.
Alongside other freight. A single PWC is not worth a dedicated truck, so it typically travels with other vehicles heading the same way. A flexible pickup window materially improves both price and scheduling.
Two or three at once. Multi-machine moves price considerably better per unit than separate bookings, and most households shipping PWCs are shipping more than one.
Open or enclosed
Open is normal and appropriate for most PWC moves. A hull is gel-coated and built for weather and spray.
Enclosed is worth it for new machines, custom wraps or paint, and long hauls where you would rather the finish arrived untouched.
Where a PWC differs from a car: the vulnerable parts are the seat, handlebars, mirrors and any soft cover, not the hull. A proper transport cover helps; a mooring cover will flap itself apart at highway speed.
What we need to know
- Make, model and length
- Weight, and whether you know the trailer's weight too
- Number of machines
- Trailer — yours or ours, and if yours, its condition
- Does it start, and is the battery healthy
- Any modification — aftermarket seats, racks, sound systems, ski pylons
What jet ski shipping costs
No price table. What drives your quote:
- Own trailer or carrier equipment — the largest single fork
- How many machines
- Open or enclosed
- Trailer roadworthiness if using yours
- Distance and corridor
- Access at both ends — marinas, storage yards and lake properties vary widely
- Season — spring outbound to the water and autumn return to storage concentrate demand hard on the same corridors

Preparing your PWC
- Drain the bilge and any water from the hull.
- Fuel and battery to the carrier's instruction — ask at booking rather than guessing.
- Remove everything loose — life jackets, ropes, anchors, electronics, covers you are not using for transport. Federal regulation prohibits carriers from moving household goods in a shipped vehicle and cargo insurance does not cover them.
- Fit a transport cover, or none at all. A mooring cover will scuff and tear at speed.
- Check trailer tyres, bearings, lights and brakes a week ahead if you are shipping on your own trailer. Bearings are the usual failure.
- Secure the machine to the trailer properly at bow eye and rear tie-downs.
- Photograph everything, dated — hull, seat, handlebars, and the trailer.

Frequently asked questions
How do you ship a jet ski? Either on its own trailer, towed or carried, or cradled and secured on the carrier's equipment. Most PWCs travel alongside other freight rather than on a dedicated truck.
How much does it cost to ship a jet ski? Mainly whether it ships on your trailer or the carrier's, how many machines, open or enclosed, and the corridor. We quote your actual shipment rather than publishing a figure.
Can you ship a jet ski without a trailer? Yes. The machine is cradled and secured on the carrier's equipment. Tell us at quote stage so the right equipment is sourced.
Can you use my trailer? Usually, if it is genuinely roadworthy. Check tyres, bearings, lights and brakes ahead of collection — PWC trailers sit unused for long periods and bearings are the common failure point.
Should I ship enclosed? Worth it for new machines, custom wraps and long hauls. Open transport is normal and appropriate for most PWC moves, since the hull is built for weather.
Can you ship two or three at once? Yes, and it prices considerably better per machine than separate bookings.
What should I do about fuel and the battery? Ask the carrier at booking and follow their instruction. Requirements differ between carriers and we would rather you get the right answer than a general one.
Can I leave gear in the storage compartments? No. Federal regulation prohibits household goods in a shipped vehicle and cargo insurance does not cover them.
Should I leave the cover on? Only if it is a transport cover. A mooring cover will flap at highway speed, scuff the hull and destroy itself.
Do you ship PWCs internationally? No. Road transport within the 48 contiguous states and Washington, DC only.
How far in advance should I book jet ski shipping? Earlier around spring launch and autumn storage, when demand on lake and coastal corridors tightens sharply.
