Door to door car shipping means the carrier collects your vehicle from the address you give us and delivers it to the address at the other end — no terminal, no storage yard, no second trip to go and fetch it. It is the default on almost everything we arrange, and for most people it is the difference between shipping a car and organising a small logistics project around shipping a car.

One thing worth knowing before you read further: "door to door" means as close to your door as a full-size car hauler can legally and safely get. Sometimes that is your driveway. Sometimes it is a supermarket car park four minutes away. We tell you which before the truck is dispatched, not on the day.

How door to door car shipping works

1. You give us two addresses. Home, office, dealership, auction lot, storage facility, apartment complex — whatever the two ends actually are.
2. We assess access at both ends before dispatch. This is the step most companies skip. A standard multi-car hauler is around 75 to 80 feet long and needs room to stop, load and pull away without blocking traffic or striking anything overhead.
3. Where access works, the driver comes to the address. Most suburban and semi-rural addresses are fine.
4. Where it does not, we agree a meeting point in advance. Typically a nearby retail car park, a wide side street, or an industrial estate a few minutes away. You know the location before the pickup window opens.
5. Inspection at both ends. Condition is documented on the bill of lading at collection with you present, and again at delivery before you sign.

When a truck cannot reach your door

Being straight about this is more useful than promising something physically impossible. A full-size hauler usually cannot manage:

• Narrow residential streets with parked cars on both sides and no turning room.
• Low-clearance obstacles — overhanging branches, footbridges, car park height barriers, tunnels.
• Steep, tight or unpaved driveways, where a long trailer will ground out.
• Municipal restrictions on commercial vehicle size, weight or hours in certain districts. Dense urban cores frequently have these.
• Gated communities and apartment complexes that restrict commercial vehicle entry, or have no route wide enough.
• Weight-restricted bridges and roads on the final approach.

None of these is unusual, and none costs you extra. What creates problems is discovering them at the kerb with a driver on a schedule. Tell us at quote stage if your street is tight, your driveway is steep, or your building has restrictions, and we plan around it.

Door to door or terminal-to-terminal

Terminal-to-terminal means dropping your vehicle at a storage yard and collecting it from another yard at the destination. The trade is straightforward:

Door-to-door costs slightly more per shipment but you do not drive to a terminal twice, your vehicle does not sit in a yard accruing exposure, and the handoff chain is shorter — fewer people move the vehicle, which means fewer opportunities for damage.

Terminal-to-terminal can price lower on some lanes, but the savings are frequently eaten by the trips to and from the terminals, and by storage fees if your collection is delayed.

For most shipments door-to-door is both more convenient and, once you count your own time and fuel, not meaningfully more expensive. We will quote either.

What affects the cost

There is no published rate card here, and a published rate cannot know your shipment. Your quote is built from:

• Distance and lane density — busy corridors have more carriers competing for the load.
• Access at both ends — a straightforward address in both places is easier to service than two difficult ones.
• Vehicle size, weight and running condition — non-running vehicles need winch-equipped carriers, a smaller pool.
• Open or enclosed — open transport shares the deck; enclosed prices for the protection.
• Timing flexibility — a wide pickup window gives us more carriers to work with. A fixed date is what expedited auto transport is priced for.

Can the carrier collect from a commercial or auction site? Yes. Commercial and auction sites are usually easier to service than residential streets, because they are built for truck access. We need the site's contact details and any release paperwork requirements.

What if the vehicle cannot be driven onto the truck? That is routine, but it needs a winch-equipped carrier, which is a smaller pool and a different price. Tell us at quote stage rather than on pickup day.
