Why enclosed matters more for a cart than for a car

This is the part worth reading before you choose the cheaper option.

A golf cart is engineered for roughly walking-to-jogging pace on a course. It is not built to sit in a 60 or 70 mph airstream for hours at a stretch. On an open trailer that is exactly what happens, and the parts that suffer are the lightweight ones — the roof, the windshield, seat backs, canopies and any enclosure.

The second half of the problem is the one people discover afterwards: wind damage is commonly an insurance exclusion. So the failure mode most specific to this vehicle is also the one least likely to be covered.

Preparing your cart

• Remove everything loose — clubs, bags, coolers, GPS units, chargers, accessories. Federal regulation prohibits carriers from moving household goods in a shipped vehicle and cargo insurance does not cover them.
• Secure or remove the canopy, windshield and enclosure where they detach. On an open trailer this is the difference between arriving intact and not.
• Fold and secure rear-flip seats.
• Check tyre pressure so the cart moves on and off without difficulty.
• Disconnect the battery where the carrier asks, and tell them the battery type.
• Note existing damage and leaks honestly at quote stage.
• Photograph it thoroughly, dated, from every angle including the roof and seats.
• Leave the key available if the carrier needs to move it under its own power.
